Insights & Perspectives

In SCOPTI Management Consulting we have many years of experience in consulting companies and helping them advance toward more perfect supply chains. Through our work of consulting and studying supply chains we have witnessed how the concept of Logistics and Supply Chain Management has evolved from its emergence in the 1980'ies in the world of academia, to companies deploying the concept in practice in the mid 1990’ies, and until today.

Deployed in practice supply chain management has evolved from being thought of as a back-office function securing speed and cost-effectiveness, to leading companies acknowledging the concept as a discrete discipline that is essential to a sound business strategy.  This acknowledgement is imperative today where companies are exposed to new challenges, complexity and turbulence stemming from the recessionary forces and new market development:

  • The lifecycles of products and technologies are constantly shortening, which calls for more effective and faster new product development and introduction
  • Pressures from competition demands more frequent changes in product and service portfolio or results in an increased number of SKUs
  • Volatility and uncertainty is increasing
  • Recessionary forces are impacting demand across all sectors
  • Downward pressure on price requires further cost reduction

We advocate that supply chain management may serve as an important competitive differentiator when one needs to cope with markets and business environments becoming increasingly turbulent and complex. Building the Supply Chain capabilities necessary to deal with these challenges, we regard as the new era of Supply Chain Management, and refer to this as SCM 2.0.

We continuously follow the developments and trends within supply chain management, and are very interested in sharing this with you.
